    Danny Barnes — banjo, vocals

Innovative banjo player and songwriter best known as a founding member of the progressive bluegrass band Bad Livers. Danny is widely regarded as one of the most creative modern banjo players, blending bluegrass, folk, and experimental roots music.

I first encountered Danny at the 40 Watt Club in Athens in 1992 when he was playing with the Bad Livers. The performance made an immediate impression, and I’ve followed his work closely ever since — tracking down just about everything he’s recorded. A true musician’s musician, he has collaborated with artists ranging from Dave Matthews to Bill Frisell to David Grisman.

I’m a veterinarian by day, so it’s fitting that Danny and I eventually became friends thanks to his dog.
